RAW converted to TIFF's 8 bit . TV 1/350 - ISO 200 except my dog at ISO 400 .

Raw conversion done with EVU . All settings to 0 or Standard except Sharpness + 3 . Color Space : RGB

As all of the pics showed underexposure at various degrees ( partial metering on the highlights ) , and were tweakened in PS using Curves .

Final sharpening was through FocalBlade , still the best sharpening software IMHO .

For the web , the 24Mb Tiff files were converted to JPEG at 50% compression but retaining full size .

You'll easily understand these have ( almost ) nothing in common anymore with the quality of the original TIFF's .

I decided to show some common samples of what the 1DMkII was capable of in terms of sharpness . These shots were made handheld , from the driver's seat of my van ( with the exception of the pics of my son and dog ) .

Since the announcement of the 1DMkII , when the first test shots appeared on the web , there have been many complaints about the lack of sharpness of this camera . Even now , almost 6 months later and while many thousands of them have reached their owners , there are still many complaints and doubts around the forums world wide .

I admit the files come out the camera less sharp than they ran out my ' old ' 1D but nothing short of what I used to see from my 10D. Where the MkII shines , is its ability to absorb lots of sharpening without showing the usual artifacts . Although , the final images do as well as those from the 1D ( admittedly with more post processing work ) , I congratulate myself for ' moving up ' because my pics don't show any banding anymore in the severe underexposed areas of my files . Also , much less noise . Even at higher ISO's .

Anyway , the purpose of these few ( far from perfect ) samples , is to show the 1DMkII can produce as sharp images as any other camera currently available ( with the exception of the 1Ds which I never had the joy to work with ) . I'm also glad to report I haven't experienced any issue with the reds or any other color and no moiré effects .

Tip To get better AF accuracy when using the center spot only , set Cfn 17 to 0 . It can work wonders ....
