MC Zeiss Sonnar 135mm 3.5 M42/EOS

Once uppon a time , I decided to go with Canon gear after years of using Leica and Nikon material . Mind you , I was so enthusiastic , I even got the expensive ' L fever ' . Nothing wrong with that as I was plenty satisfied at 95% which I found a high score . Incidentally I was very , very amazed  with the quality of the pics my 1DMkII produced in combination with the Sonnar .

I was fortunate to get mine with an M42/EOS adapter already fitted and ready to go . Ok , it doesn't AF and you need to set your camera to Av to keep the automaic light metering  aperture ( set to 0.0 ) . Also , you will have to select the max aperture in order to focus correctly , then choose your desired aperture , meter on the area you want and shoot . Not as fast ( 1 to 10 ) as with the EF lenses but a great quality at unknown prices in the EF range . Also , I (re)discovered the joy of composing , focusing and metering carefully before to push the trigger .

I have to admit it's not really adapted anymore to street photography , sports or candids . But

I started photography some 32 years ago and everything had to be done manually then ....

This lens is ' sparkling ' !

Should you choose to go the Zeiss , Praktica , Pentax and Co way , there is ONE accessory you'll need : the M42/EOS Adapter . There are many offers around but I discovered few will do the job and will let you help yourself out of the mess because of bad contacts and lack of tightening . I used several brands myself with mitigated success till I decided to try an unknown brand . I'm sold to them since I use them ! And , no , I've no commitment with the seller , but his product is the best I've come accross .The adapters are tight , give no Err message , do respect the infinity focus , are light ( no heavy stainless steel - they are anodized black or red )  and have a nice finish . I changed my previous Hama  I was using so far for these and I'm happy with my choice .

I forgot to say these adapters do care about the protruding pins at the rear of M42 lenses as well !No need anymore to glue them in retracted position to avoid damaging the mirror .

Splendid craftmanship and a revelation !

A must have if you intend to use those splendid Zeiss lenses .

The manufacturer of these adapters offers also the only known rings to adapt the Pentax K lenses to any EOS body .The choice of glass on our Canon cameras becomes almost infinite ...
