There are many noise reduction actions available . Some are free , some are not . Not to forget Neat Image which is a very complete program that will be discussed elsewhere on this site .

David Marsit's seduced me because its different available choices for de-noising , its ease of use , speed and efficiency .

The sample pic below was taken with the EOS 10D , EF 70-200mm L 2.8 and Ext x1.4 .

ISO 800 , 5.6 , 1/500th , RAW Mode , 280mm , handheld . Light conditions : Dull , grey .

The Raw file was converted with Breeze Browser .

All editing was done on the TIFF file 8 bits .

Slight contrast enhancement , Curves and USM 200 , 1.0 , 0

For publishing , the TIFF file was converted to Jpeg and resized to 1000x666 pixels .

The crops are 100% of the TIFF's converted to Jpeg .

The first row shows the pic without application of the action .

I've choosen that part to crop as it contains the darkest areas of the image , there where the noise is prominent .

The following rows show the same pic on which I applied the 4 available settings : Mild , Normal , Aggresive and Super Aggresive .
